Bathroom Humor
A comedy by Van Zandt & Milmore
Director - Judith Barkley White
Laura, who is married to
Arthur, is having an affair with Sandy, one of Arthur's employees. Sandy is a
nervous fellow who is trying to work up the nerve to ask Arthur for a raise
during the party. Arthur, who owns his own company, struggles with the
temptation to have an affair with Babette, a man-chaser who works for him and
wants desperately to get him alone and undressed. Stu is a degenerate whose
goal for the evening is to consume massive quantities of drugs and alcohol. Peg
is a sweet person who is struggling to overcome her self-image and “fit in.”
The Big El is a not-too-talented Elvis impersonator who has been hired as the
party entertainer, and Peg's father is an elderly man who just needs to use
the bathroom. Throughout the evening these folks make their way in and out of
the bathroom to gossip, snoop, tell secrets, meet lovers, indulge in degenerate behaviour, argue, seduce … in other words, everything but use the porcelain
facilities.
Director - Judith Barkley White
Judith is more then excited to finally be directing Bathroom Humor.
Highlights of her 12 years of directing credits include:
Wrong Turn at Lungfish, Are you Afraid of Thieves, Shakers, Two,
and Cannibals. She feels exceptionally blessed to be working with this
amazingly talented cast and crew. Special thanks to Jacqollyne, Greg, Arlene,
Alison, George, Des and everyone at Vags. Also many thanks to James and to Dale
Kelly. Enjoy the show!
Julia Grace as Laura
Julia has been acting in theatre since the age of eleven. She's
performed in a variety of shows such as Fiddler on the Roof, Pack of Lies, A Bad
Year for Tomatoes, and the Vagina Monologues, just to name a few. She had also
trained in several forms of dance, her most recent being the journey into Salsa.
This is Julia's first performance with Vegabond Players and she is thrilled to
be part of this production.
Michelle Berg as Peg
After over a 2 year hiatus, Michelle is happy
to be back on stage at the Bernie Legge theatre. Michelle has appeared in
several productions with the Vagabond Players over the years, including; “The
Hollow”, “The Transylvanian Clockworks” and “Tainted Justice”.
Michelle would like to thank Judith for the opportunity to try something new,
and hopes the audience enjoys watching the show as much as she has enjoyed being
a part of it.
Ashley McMullen as Babette
A
recent graduate of the Theatre Performance Program at Simon Fraser University,
some of Ashley McMullen's latest stage credits include: A Midsummer Night's
Dream (Shadows and Dreams), Caught In The Act (Genus Theatre), Uncle Vanya (SFU
Mainstage), and Other Freds (Only Animal). She also enjoys working with a
collective of actors, from whose work has come "Larger Than Life", a physical
performance piece touring Lower Mainland elementary schools, directed by Nicole
Des Lauriers. Ashley is very grateful for the opportunity to participate in
"Bathroom Humour" and plans on using what she's learned as the office trollop at
her day job.
Pat McDermott as The Old Man
Pat is happy to be back with the Vagabond
Players doing a role he has studied his whole life for…The Old Man. Perhaps
he should start getting used to it as he has just retired from Canada Post. Pat
looks forward to his new adventure and would like to thank the cast and
especially Judith for making this so much fun. Enjoy.
Ryan Erwin as Stu
This marks Ryan's 3rd play with the
Vagabond Players. The first was Night of the Foolish Moon, in which he
portrayed a knightly romanticist named Roger. And the second was Moon Over
Buffalo, where he played the schlepper of a repertory theatre named Paul. Ryan
began his foray in community theatre at the Youth Week Festival at the VECC. He
looks forward to the challenge of playing such a crazy character in Bathroom
Humor.
Miles Lavkulich as Arthur
Miles is thrilled to be back at Vagabonds after his last
performance here as a jockey in the show "Office Hours" (check the listing of
plays in the lobby). He credits the wonderful cast and crew for making him look
so good on stage. And hopes he will not have to wait years before he is allowed
to set foot in New Westminster again.
Dave Peters as Sandy
Dave last appeared with the Vagabond Players in 1997 in Lily the Felon's
Daughter as Rob the old scoundrel. He has worked with other groups in the Lower
Mainland including Langley Players, Surrey Little Theatre, Metro Theatre and
Sidekick Players in Ladner. He is very happy to work with a very talented cast,
as everyone is very nice. Thank you Judith, Greg, Arlene for your guidance,
direction was awesome. Please enjoy the show!
Kevin Sloan as The Big El
This is Kevin’s first show with Vagabond Players and his second with his good
friend Judith Barkley White. He has previously worked with more than a dozen
theatre companies around town and been in several student films and some
features. He thanks a great cast, a wonderful scene partner in Michelle and
hopes you enjoy this romp back in the glory days of the ‘80s!
